Topic 7 Managing the global beast

In the seventh week, I learnt that content is How to control the global organizational structures. The organizational structure, which includes 3 key contents formally: Concentration of the structure, regulatory and complexity, stipulates that how the task organized is assigned, who report the work, which mode the communication is. In a word, organizational structure is significant for international business.
Then, what factor influence international organizational structure of international business? Generally speaking, the influence factor of organizational structure includes two aspects, that is, the external influence factors and the internal influence. The external influences of organizational structure include factors such as politics, culture, economy, geography, competition, etc. mainly. The procedure of control is to confirm the goal – to confirm strategy – to confirm the method of controlling. (see the Fig. 1.)

What about the internal influences? In my view, the internal influences include several aspects such as quality, cost, delivery, speed, flexibility, dependability. Products and service quality are determining the validity of the international business controls directly. The cost control is the effective means of the international commercial affair. Delivery, speed, flexibility, dependability are the important means to promote the competence of the international business controls.
Then, what structure does the organizational structure of international business have? According to the teacher''s materials, international business organizational structure includes five kinds of basic institutional frameworks, that is, functional division structure, product division structure, geographic division structure, international division structure, and matrix division structure.
The functional structure is mainly the company organization division, which is a kind of vertical division of labor. Its characteristic is that production and marketing centre in the same area, the two without separated. Obviously, the functional division of labor is only the division of labor of a kind of administrative staff. (See the Fig. 2.)

The production structure has obvious areas of division of labor; the production of the products fittings is in different areas. (See the Fig. 3.)

The geographical structure refers to the branch companies or branches in different areas of the trans-corporation. (See the Fig. 4.)

The structure of international division refers to the division of labour in producing , selling , serving etc. of trans-corporation , there is obvious regional division of labor. (See the Fig. 5.)
